MILTON R. SHEFTER

Biography

Milt Shefter is President of Miljoy, Inc. a consulting and project management company involved in Media asset Protection and Preservation. The company’s areas of expertise include archive, library and warehouse operational design, fulfillment systems, shelving types and configurations, materials handling equipment, environmental controls, fire suppression systems, moisture control. Fulfillment operations and computerized databases with barcode tracking systems. He is best known for the creation, design and management of the extensive Paramount Pictures Asset Protection Program which included W world-wide inspections of prime assets in storage sites and vaults and constructions of state-of-the-art archival facilities on the Paramount Hollywood lot, in an underground mine in the Eastern U.S. and London, England.

In addition to a continuing business relationship with Paramount, the company’s international clients include Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Studios, Savoy Pictures, Four Media Company (now Liberty Livewire), The Library of Congress, Cybertec Imaging, Worldwide Preservation LLC, Preferred Media Corp., Bonded Services, Self Realization Fellowship Worldwide Church, Spelling Entertainment Group and Kodak’s FPC Division.

His professional background includes being Vice President of Consolidated Film Industries and its Videotape Division. He was also Western Region Vice President for Novo Communications and V.P. and General Manager of both their Bonded Services storage and Distribution Company and Novo Magnetics, which manufactured magnetic striped products for audio post-production.

He was selected to be on the Hearing Panel of the National Film Preservation Board under the Librarian of Congress and headed the NFPB Task Force on Public Awareness, the results of which led to the formulation of a National Film Preservation Plan. He has been an expert witness on Nitrate film for the Department of Justice before the United States court of Federal appeals in Washington, D.C. and he testified before the National Fire Protection Association for revisions in their storage standards on Nitrate film.

Shefter has served on the International Board of Governors of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) and is a former Chair of the Hollywood Section of SMPTE. He has been General Arrangements Chairman for SMPTE International Conferences, has been given SMPTE’s Outstanding Service Award and was elevated to Fellow status, signifying extraordinary contributions to the technology. He is also a member of the Association of Moving Image Archivists, the American Society of Cinematographers, the Writers Guild of America and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
